The $10 Challenge

Jack, a prominent business man, known for his kindness and generosity, learned he had cancer.  He was given the time he needed to prepare for his passing.  He spent the time with the people he wanted to.  He made sure all of his arrangements would be handled as per his wishes, and he put together 100 envelopes for his closest friends to receive after his funeral service.


All 100 people were invited to come to his home after the service, where his wife was waiting.  When all arrived, she handed out 100 envelopes and asked for everyone to open them together.  When all had received their envelope, she gave the 'go ahead' and her only words were, 'This is from Jack to you'.  Each one opened an envelope to find a $10 bill, and the words, 'Please pay forward' on a note in the envelope.


This was his way of continuing on in the way he wanted to be remembered.  All 100 people found someone to give $10 to... with the only sentiment - 'Please pay forward'.  There is no telling how far those '$10 gifts' went, but you can be assured that 100 people handing $10  to 100 people and asking them to also, 'pay forward' had a ripple effect.  


I challenge you to take $10 today, if you have it to spare, and place it in an envelope and include a note that says, 'Please pay forward'.  If you want to print out this story and include, feel free.  But, you don't need to.  'Please pay forward' says enough.  No explanation needed.
